Love at Any Cost by Julie Lessman

Back Cover:

He’s looking to take care of his family.  She’s looking to take care of her heart.
Trouble is…love’s looking to take care of them both.

Cassidy McClare is a spunky Texas oil heiress without a fortune who would just as soon hogtie a man as look at him.  Jilted by a fortune hunter, Cassidy travels west hoping a summer visit with her wealthy cousins in San Francisco will help her forget her heartache.  But no sooner is she settled in beautiful California than Jamie McKenna, a handsome pauper looking to marry well, captures her heart.  Can love prevail when Jamie discovers that Cassidy is poorer than he is?  And can Cassidy ever learn to fully trust her heart to a man?

Review: What a witty, spunky novel! Cassidy has HAD IT with men. She has been dated for her money, dumped for other women, and her heart thoroughly tossed to and fro by scoundrels with handsome faces.... Oh, but she does have a horrid weakness for a pretty face... But no more! She is THROUGH with falling for rugged good-looks and is determined, that from this point on, she is going to focus on her educational projects.

Unfortunately for Cassidy, she falls - quite literally - for Jamie. A too-handsome-for-his-own-good bad boy. He starts off as a sweet, attentive romantic interested and despite her best intentions, Cassidy begins to love him. However, things take a pretty horrid turn when Jamie finds out that Cassidy, although she acts and dresses wealthy, is actually quite poor.

With an ailing sister that requires an expensive surgery and a job that pays well but not that well, Jamie is determined to marry well - no matter the cost to his or Cassidy's heart.

This was a great read, and I would certainly recommend it for your summer book list.
