Blind Trust by Sandra Orchard

…..Kate’s not sure how deep this deception goes – but she’ll do whatever it takes to find out.

Kate Adams had no idea she was carrying counterfeit money and can’t believe that it came from her sweet elderly neighbor. Or that it has landed her in the middle of another of Detective Tom Parker’s investigations. Determined to prove her neighbor’s innocence, Kate stumbles into a pit of intrigue far deeper than a two-bit counterfeit operation – and one that strikes too close to home for comfort.

As family secrets come to light, her world – and her budding romance with Tom – begin to crumble. To Kate, it’s clear that she won’t be safe until she uncovers all of Port Aster’s secrets. But then will it be too late for her and Tom.

Review: Kate is a magnet for trouble. She’s been in the middle of a mystery since she was a child. At a young age the police arrested her father, and she never saw him again. Years later, she still believes he is innocent and is trying to figure out what happened to him.

After almost getting killed by the local store girl Molly, Kate just wants peace. However, peace doesn’t seem to want her. Trying to help out her neighbor, she picks up some groceries for the elderly lady and pays with the cash she gave her… cash that happens to be counterfeit. Before she knows it, Kate is back in the middle of Tom Parker’s life.  As the counterfeit mystery grows, things from Kate’s past begin to come to the surface. Confused and trying to put all the facts together, Kate reluctantly teams up with Tom to try and figure out what really happened to her father and who is running the counterfeit ring in her little town.

Meanwhile, Tom, the local detective, can’t believe how hard it is to keep Kate safe. It’s a small town…but she seems to find more trouble here than most people could find in a huge city. She needs his help, but if only he could convince her of that.

Blind Trust is the second book in the Port Aster series. Sandra Orchard is writing each novel as its own separate mystery, but behind the main mystery is the developing case of Kate’s father and her shady past. I like the double-layered crime story that is running through this series. There is definitely going to be a book three!
