On Wings of Devotion by Roseanna M. White

Review: Roseanna M. White has added another favourite to my shelf. I honestly don't know how she keeps doing it. I really enjoyed this book and would certainly recommend it if you are looking for a clean, page-turning, romantic historical novel set in the WWII era (England).

I really loved the premise of this book.... the villain, a man known as no other than "Black Heart", as the main character? A twist right off from the start! The way Ms. White set the stage for the reader to meet Major Phillip Camden was nothing short of brilliant... and could the addition of our heroine, Arabelle, be any more dramatic? I think not. This book is a page turner right from the start and wont release you from its grasp until the very end.

In addition to the fantastic character development with Arabelle and Camden, I was truly moved by the strength of Arabelle's faith and Camden's growth in this area. This novel truly spoke to God's grace and saving power and it has earned its place in the genre of "Christian" fiction. So often books that are slotted as "Christian" do nothing to earn this accolade except for the fact that they aren't filled with inappropriate content. "On Wings of Devotion" exemplified what a solid Christian faith would look like in Arabelle's situation and how a person might grow as Camden did. I really appreciated how Roseanna White wrote this.

I also need to mention the use of historical events in the novel. The use of real life accounts of spies to create one of her characters (I won't say who!) and the air raids that took place during the novel really amplified the suspense and carried the plot of this novel. I learnt some interesting tidbits about the Great War.

In short, I would certainly recommend this book. I read it twice and loved it both times.

Thank-you to Graf Martin Communications the to Baker Publishing House for a complimentary copy of this book.

Back Cover:
All of England thinks Major Phillip Camden a monster--a man who deliberately caused the deaths of his squadron. But he would have preferred to die that day with his men rather than be recruited to the Admiralty's codebreaking division. The threats he receives daily are no great surprise and, in his opinion, well deserved.

As nurse Arabelle Denler observes the so-dubbed "Black Heart," she sees something far different: a hurting man desperate for mercy. And when their families and paths twist together unexpectedly, she realizes she has a role to play in his healing--and some of her own to do as well.

With Camden's court-martial looming, an old acquaintance shows up, intent on using him in a plot that sends the codebreakers of Room 40 into a frenzy. With their fragile hopes for the future in the cross hairs, Arabelle and Camden must hold on to hope--and to each other--if they want to survive.
