Woodencloak by Dawn Ford

I get to do a pre-book release promo! I am so excited to be part of Dawn Ford's new young adult fiction release. I read "The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes" by Dawn earlier in 2022, and I really enjoyed that book. So when I was given the opportunity to read and help promote "Woodencloak" I didn't hesitate to say "Yes!". I am glad I did!

Woodencloak is a creative, fantastical adventure with no shortage of imagination. It is a twist on the norm - instead of having a beautiful heroine with flowing locks and a beautiful smile, you have a warty troll with claws, a thick hide, and tusks. Horra isn't the main character we are used to, and I absolutely love that. She'll eat swamp gruel and isn't bothered by the rats, the tinkling laughter of the fairies makes her grind her teeth and want to plug her ears, and more than anything she wants to be a fierce warrior worthy of her queen mother's dynasty.

Not once does Horra swoon over a prince, worry about an outfit, or complain about getting her hands dirty. She did not ask for the disaster that befell her kingdom, but she knows that hard work is what makes her kingdom prosper, and no amount of magic can outdo that. While her enemies are mighty, her grit and perseverance are strong, as are the unlikely allies she picks up along the way.

This is a great read for your pre-teen to young teen. There isn't any content that needs mentioning and there are some great moral morsels tucked into this super entertaining read.

Thank-you Dawn for letting me be part of your promo team!
